Dream Baby Dream

This is an amazing cover version; The, er, Boss nails this... covers album of Suicide/Rev/Vega songs please, Brucie. Call it a Bonus.

Richard Youngs

Listening a lot to Richard Youngs at the moment; he captures the cold perfectly.

Other than a Wire article a few years back and some end of year placings for The Naive Shaman, he doesn't seem to feature on the radar much, or else drops off, or else slides off, becomes deliberately invisible and revels in sunburned and ridiculous wealth ("Richard Youngs, you say? Oh Aye; you'll find him at the edge of the Loch, painting the fish with gold leaf and making little paper boats out of money...") and really doesn't want to be seen*.

Maybe the music is a byline/byproduct of his work as a Copper Magnate, Blood Diamond Seller? Maybe he's not even one person, the releases lurch sideways - he might be a fiction suit, for all I know... a collective noun for hundreds of struggling guitar-pickers...

Whatever, he's a mostly genius, I think.

Gentleforce-s

Listening to Gentleforce - Learning To Forgive

There's something understated and creepy about this. Music on top, of course, but also between the lines. Not paid that much attention to this before but on headphones there's little slivers of melody and, well, insinuation. It's kind of anti-minimalism, maybe minimalism+

Must check out more of this; it's getting to be that there's too much music out there that is happy to be just surface.

Hope this track isn't a happy accident.

(NOTE: just noticed that Kek has already gotten here before me, lil' bugger that he is... and it seems like it's not a happy accident)

(NOTE+ and I just went over to the Gentleforce site and it seems like Ekoplekz is somehow involved as well, or at least lurking in the sidebars)

(NOTE++ So I guess that somewhere down the line this might not exactly be my discovery...)

For those MP3 diggers amongst you, there's a track here, courtesy of Who The Hell.

And I guess Feral Media and New Weird Australia ought to get a mention.

Finally, enough digging for now, there's a mix here, which features (is by?) Gentleforce alongside his influences...

I've just bought the CD, I think maybe some of you ought to, too... there's little stuff around out there that gets me; hope it's not the hallucinatory power of the 8.36 to Bridgwater...

Big Stick - Drag Racing

"Speak softly and carry a big stick..."

...i liked the outfits and the hair...

Children gone bad.

And Crack Attack was pretty, brilliantly, wasteful...

Bought the singles from a bucket in Acorn Music, sun-drenched Yeovil. Maybe a coupla years too late. There was something about these guys that makes me think Big Stick are due a comeback any day soon.

Dusting down the wig-outs and clumping up the beats...

This was Mnml for a while. The Phrases. Cut. Out. To. The. Fucking. Point.
