Time Attendant

Bendy electronics and medievalism via the ever dependable, ever eclectic Exotic Pylon..... I've seen Time Attendant a few times now and this sounds more or less like his live shows and, synaesthetically, more or less exactly like the sleeve art:

...which, oddly, doesn't look like this (Blogger has put the image through a mysterious mangle, a New
Aesthetic gauze/vice... and the music doesn't sound like this at all...)

But the real sleeve is:

Nope... not that either.... Jesus, these Elphs... these ruptures

Go find the cover, you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, it sounds like: Cubist constructions of sheet sounds, rubbing softly against one another... arranged with an artist's eye... glimmers of submerged melody, squiggles and beats (in the same way that, say, Ekoplekz has beats)... the arrangement is the key, there's a real certainty about it; like he knows where the sounds are going and is just easing them into position...

That said, the vinyl bonus track, Harry Mandrake, sounds a little different and (self promotion/damning with faint praise/ego-tics) actually not dissimilar to an IX Tab track... timelines converging, the East meeting the West...

y'see, you can't be a blogger/critic AND produce your own music too. ego/self-promotion thing always gets in the way. its gotta be one or the other. which way you gonna go, bro...?

I'm not a critic, I'm a fan... And as a producer / dabbler / dilettante i like to think I'll remain resolutely mediocre at both...
