The Line Up of Indie Dreams

I never got around to finishing what I started here. It dribbled out, as it probably should have. But, seriously, imagine seeing Loop, Spacemen 3, Swans, My Bloody Valentine, The Butthole Surfers, Tackhead, The Sugarcubes, Head Of David... all at Reading, of all places...

Interesting, also, to look at the billing / status: MBV wa down the list (I think You Made Me Realise had just come out...), Tackhead higher than you'd imagine (they always seemed more niche than they were), The Buttholes resplendently higher than you'd expect (again; they had the aura of a band that no one else liked, even if everyone did). And poor little Spacemen 3... so low down you can barely see them, even though everyone I knew was into them...

There's no need for this post.

It was a great weekend, bar nearly getting beaten up by New Model Army fans and crawling drunkenly through a fire. :-)

god there were a lot of shit bands back then. the mission? wonderstuff?? utter shite. even nostalgia for lost youth cant save them. and i've gone right off new order since then.

my only reading was the following year. slighty better headliners imho...pixies..inspirals...cramps. plus young gods...oh, and gary clail!!

Well, yes, sort of... though I'm pretty sure I knew all The Wonderstuff / Poppies lyrics back then... (and girls like The Wonder Stuff so...) The Mission were always shite... but Les Negresses Vertes! C'mon... it was a STELLAR line-up!

Tackhead were amazing - the bass seemed to shake the ground. Swans were amazing, spacemen 3 were amazing.
Saturday was shit so we went to a pub in Reading.
Sunday was lovely - the weather was great and the Buttholes were incredible. The biggest moshpit i've ever seen. I lost the keys to the hire van in said moshpit and they were never found again. We had to break into the van, take out the ignition to hotwire it, then knock the petrol cap off with a brick in order to refuel. Needless to say we didn't get the deposit back.

Yes, Mr Tear I remember that moshpit... Didn't The Buttholes smash their guitars up too early as well?
