Secret Mommy

What is attractive about sound? Go beyond the obvious symbolic, associational connotations (I love Bedrock by The All Nude Foetus Review because someone once told me an anecdote about a girl who masturbated to it while dancing in a Newport nightclub and because it reminds me of a time when I was reading a lot of Charles Bukowski and fancied myself as a P.I.) and there doesn't really seem to be anything there, no theory that explains why what some people do with music pops synapses while others appear to have found an ancient audio hex which switches off the central nervous system...

I'm saying this because today's track is this:

Secret Mommy - Very Rec

and Secret Mommy is no different really from the usual glitch, paste and set mob, the splattergun scientists, the burroughs queers which permeate through electronica like a rash of Shingles (and Secret Mommy are altogether too synaethetically 'jagged' for my usual round tastes) but something makes me attracted to what they do.

Something makes Secret Mommy feel like they belong.

I struggle with this kind of music usually, even when intellectually it seems like I'd like it because part of me believes that I'm a bit glitchy. Normally, this kind of music struggles with me like an autistic child trying to count pebbles on a windy day when everyone else wants to go home.

I love the idea of Matmos. But I don't like much of their music.

The Secret Mommy sheen on things though seems somehow refreshing, as if they've looked at the intricacies of what people are doing with smudged beats and field recordings with fresh, Laura Mars eyes.

The music sounds fun with a trickle of evil and, playing back my favourite tracks from my favourite bands, more or less everything I like sounds like that too.

Tomorrow, I'm making a new genre.
