Space Is The Place

How did I not know this space baby existed? It's the greatest thing that earthlings have ever made. The colours, the sounds, the way Sun Ra's spaceship / studio looks like its in my old youth club. This is groovy, of course, but with added dollops of theory throughout, and genuine socio-economic flailing and rage and spirit amongst the usual early 70s freakery. Can't imagine what it would've been like to have been seen this back then but it really feels like a message from space...

The scene in the youth club hall where Sun Ra first appears and the girls in there are getting all fly... That look in his eyes, that flick, that sadness... If he's acting then this is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. His eyes move and there's a world of (not just) black history in there and a universe of frustration. This must be what Kant looked like. Everything seems so utterly obvious and yet...

There's a great in-depth description and analysis HERE but you have to see this to really (not) get it.

Oh, and before I forget, "Space isn't just high"
